Vucic dissolves parliament, calls for new elections

Early parliamentary elections in Serbia will be held on October 25. The date has been confirmed by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.

Vučić signed the decree dissolving the National Assembly and preparing the country for elections.

The last parliamentary elections in Serbia were held on December 17, 2023, while early voting is being organized as a result of the political crisis that began after the collapse of the train station shelter in Novi Sad, where 16 people lost their lives.

Since then, there have been protests in the country, while the opposition also requested a no-confidence motion, which ultimately did not receive the necessary majority votes to overthrow the government.

The announcement of early elections is expected to serve as an important test for Vučić's power and his party.

The October 25 elections will determine the new composition of the Serbian Parliament and could have a significant impact on the country's political direction in the coming months.
