The Kosovo Assembly is expected to return to session today to conclude the constitution process, while the Vetevendosje Movement is expected to propose Albulena Haxhiu as a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly. The session is scheduled to start at 11:00 and the agenda includes the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers of the Assembly. According to media reports in Kosovo, LVV, as the party that came first in the elections, is expected to officially present Haxhiu's candidacy for the leadership of the Assembly today.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Party of Kosovo is expected to nominate Vlora Çitaku for one of the vice-presidential positions. The Democratic League of Kosovo has not yet officially announced its candidate for vice-president. The main point of the session will be the vote for the new Speaker of the Assembly. It is not yet known whether Haxhiu will secure the necessary number of votes, so the stance of the PDK, LDK and other parties is expected to be decisive.
The constitutive session of the 11th Legislature of the Assembly of Kosovo began on August 6, but failed to conclude because the LVV did not present a candidate for Speaker of the Assembly at that time. The deputies have taken the oath, while the election of the Speaker and Deputy Speakers remains the main step for concluding the constitution process.
If the Assembly manages to elect new leaders, the process of its constitution will enter its final phase. Otherwise, the session may face political deadlock again. Developments during the vote are also expected to determine whether political parties will manage to find an agreement on the functioning of the new Assembly of Kosovo.
