A 25-year-old athlete of French origin, involved in the Mediterranean Games, is suspected of having been the victim of a sexual assault during the night between August 31 and September 1. The suspected perpetrator of the attack, writes ANSA, would be a footballer of Moroccan nationality. The latter, according to information so far, had already returned to his country of origin yesterday morning.
According to an initial reconstruction of the incident, the French athlete resisted her attacker, asking for help and attracting the attention of the personnel on board. 118 doctors and the police intervened at the scene. The girl, who was taken to hospital for checks, would not have suffered any injuries.
Police investigations have already begun: the violence is suspected to have taken place in one of the structures adapted as an Olympic village (a tourist ship) of the Mediterranean Games, which started on August 21 and are taking place in Taranto. In these hours it will be sought to shed more light on what happened, while the victim was immediately taken to hospital for treatment and the necessary checks. The footage recorded by the cameras present on the ship is being examined by the investigators.
