The waste landfill of the Bulqizë and Klos municipalities, located above the village of Plan i Bardhë, has been burning for more than a month. The flames started on October 1 and, despite the interventions of the fire services and rainfall, the fire has not yet been completely extinguished. The situation is even more problematic at night, when other waste from both municipalities continues to be dumped at the landfill. Interventions with firefighting equipment have not managed to extinguish the flames, while the fire continues to burn plastic waste accumulated there over the years.
Off-camera, residents of the area are demanding a definitive solution to this situation, expressing concern about air pollution and the danger posed by smoke released from burning plastic. According to them, the chemicals that are spread in the air are affecting their daily lives. Another concern of the residents is related to the water sources that originate in this area. They fear that the continuous burning of waste could also cause water contamination, increasing the risk for the community living near the landfill.
