The constitutive session of the Kosovo Assembly is expected to continue today, with the election of the deputy speakers of the Assembly on the agenda.
The session was called by the Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, after the failure of Vlora Çitaku's vote in Friday's session.
LVV deputies abstained from voting for the PDK candidate, preventing her from receiving the necessary votes to be elected vice president.
In the same session, the Assembly managed to elect Ardian Gola from LVV to the position of vice-president.
After the failure of the Çitaku vote, the PDK decided not to participate in further constitutive sessions of the Assembly, warning that it would send the matter to the Constitutional Court.
A few hours later, another session was called within the same day, but PDK deputies did not participate.
On the other hand, LDK stated that Kujtim Shala's candidacy cannot be put to a vote without first voting on the PDK candidacy, demanding that the process be carried out in order.
However, on Sunday evening, LVV 'let go of the reins' and announced that it would vote for both candidates for vice-president, Vlora Çitaku of PDK and Kujtim Shala of LDK.
LVV has expressed hope that the election of vice-presidents will enable the continuation of the institutional process and will not pose an obstacle to the election of the next president of Kosovo.
The PDK reacted shortly before the session with a statement stating that it would not be part of it.
"For the Democratic Party of Kosovo, the Constitution is not a political bargain. The establishment of the Assembly is a constitutional obligation and cannot be conditioned on the opposition voting for the President or other political agreements."
For this reason, PDK will not continue to participate from one session to the next, in a process where conditions are constantly changing and new obstacles are created. Even participation in another session offers no guarantee that the process will be concluded and that no new demands or conditions will be presented.
The Democratic Party of Kosovo considers that the situation that has now arisen requires constitutional clarity. PDK experts are working on preparing the case, which will be addressed to the Constitutional Court, for the entire process.
"Until the Constitutional Court's decision, the position of the Democratic Party of Kosovo remains clear: PDK will not participate in the sessions of the Assembly," the PDK statement reads. /LAPSI.al
