The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, commented on the week-long visit to the United States, immediately after returning to Tirana, describing it as one of his most important political trips.
"This is the most refreshing journey of my life," Berisha told reporters.
The DP Chairman participated in the Republican Party Convention in Texas, where the Albanian delegation was invited by the International Democratic Union and the American Leadership Institute.
Berisha described the convention as one of the biggest electoral activities he had attended, while focusing particularly on the speech of US President Donald Trump. According to him, Trump's messages about the fight against communism and drug trafficking were also striking for political developments in Albania.
During his stay in the US, Berisha said he held a series of meetings with representatives of Congress, the Senate and the American administration, together with Fatmir Mediu and other members of the delegation.
An important part of the visit was also spent meeting with the Albanian diaspora. Berisha described them as inspiring, while saying that the Albanian-American community is much stronger today than three decades ago. He compared the visit to his trip to the US 35 years ago, when, according to him, he sought support for political changes in Albania.
