Former British Prime Minister resigns as MP

Former British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has officially announced his departure from his mandate as MP for Holborn and St Pancras after 11 years of representation.

This decision will lead to the holding of a snap election in this London constituency, which is considered a safe bastion of the Labour Party.

 
Starmer's decision comes as a change of position, as immediately after resigning as prime minister earlier this summer, where he was replaced by Andy Burnham, he had declared that he would remain in parliament until the next general election.

For this reason, the chairman of the Conservative Party, Kevin Hollinrake, criticized him for another "180-degree turn" that costs taxpayers.

The date of new elections in the constituency will be determined once his resignation is officially formalized.
