Vlahovic and Skriniar, the reason for the sensational fight in Turkey is revealed: Juventus-Inter of 2022

Dusan Vlahovic and Milan Skriniar have not been on good terms. The clash between the striker and defender in the Turkish derby between Fenerbahce and Besiktas went viral, with the two initially facing shoves and punches, and then being insulted with vulgar words and gestures. 

It is clear that there was an unsolved score between the Serb and the Slovak since the time when both played in Italy. The grudges erupted in a fierce clash on the field, after a very physical duel. In Turkey, they have tried to reconstruct the reasons for the hostility between the two, which is particularly related to a Juventus-Inter match. So, an exchange with an Italian flavor, but which certainly does not bring out the best in either of them.

What happened between Vlahovic and Skriniar?

Let's start from the present. Vlahovic and Skriniar entered the field already knowing that the relationship between them was not optimal. From the beginning of the challenge between the two Turkish teams, there was no shortage of hard clashes and some sneaky shots, until a clash with the wing became the spark that caused chaos. 

Dusan approached the defender face to face, while the latter pushed him to the ground, complaining about the excessive protests. When the friendly striker, who later decided the match, stood up, an extremely violent confrontation began, with speech in Italian. Dirty words, insults and an ugly gesture from Vlahovic towards Skriniar, while the other players tried with difficulty to restore the situation to normal.

Behind the scenes of 2022: why there is an open score between the two

Even the barrage of insults in Italian confirmed that the two seemed to be waiting for the right moment to clash. The huge noise created by the duel raised the question of everyone: when did this particular rivalry arise? According to Turkish media, Vlahovic, a former Fiorentina and Juventus player, and Skriniar, a former Sampdoria and Inter player, saw their relationship break down in April 2022, in a match in Turin between the black and whites and the black and blues. In that case, the triumph went to the visiting team. It was a very tense match, with many clashes within the permitted limits and a rain of yellow cards. One of the themes of the match was precisely the confrontation between Vlahovic and Skriniar, which was extremely strong. The central striker practically failed to leave a mark, despite his commitment, resulting in a pale appearance.

Great credit to the Slovak defender, who appeared like an impenetrable wall, even using the so-called “tricks of the trade” – some provocations and small kicks away from the ball – to take the attacker out of the game. The mission was accomplished and the defender received many accolades, after managing to neutralize one of the main protagonists of the match. And so we arrived at another confrontation between them, this time on Turkish soil, where things took a bad turn. Looking back, a turn that was not at all unexpected.

The Serb's Revenge

It should also be said that this time things went differently than the previous encounter. Both scored, but Vlahovic's goal was very important and allowed Besiktas to take the victory. Skriniar's constant coverage, with his usual way of playing, did not fully work this time.

And the matter may not end there, as Vlahovic's gesture with his index finger and thumb joined in a circle, while the other three fingers are raised, considered extremely vulgar and offensive in the local culture, could be reviewed by the disciplinary bodies and cost him a suspension, based on Article 41 of the TFF regulations. The reason? An offensive behavior ascertained through television footage.
