After four official matches, Fiorentina decided to dismiss coach Fabio Grosso. The long Sunday of reflection led to the most drastic decision, that of parting ways with the coach after only two months on the job: the victory in the Coppa Italia and three consecutive defeats in the championship were enough to assess the situation, but what would have broken the relationship between the World Champion and the Viola would have been a fierce argument with Fabio Paratici, which took place half an hour before the dismissal, around 11:00 p.m.
After the defeat against Torino, the club seemed to want to give confidence to the coach, but in one day everything changed. The situation would have been a debate with the sporting director on the construction of the team and the management of this moment of crisis, which would have led to the breakdown of relations and, consequently, to the decision not to continue the journey together. In place of Grosso, Paolo Vanoli, who saved the team from relegation last season, is expected to return to the Fiorentina bench.
Why Grosso was fired in the evening
Fiorentina released a short statement announcing the coach's dismissal late yesterday evening, without any thanks or explanations. The decision came as a shock to the fans, who had only hours earlier been assured of his future. What changed everything was a heated argument with Paratici over the most pressing issues of the season, as reported by Corriere Fiorentino: Grosso and the sporting director disagreed on how to manage the crisis and build the team, leading the coach to resign within half an hour.
Since the end of the transfer window, something had begun to break down, especially after Kean's departure. Grosso would have liked a quicker and less harsh solution to the issue, as well as the earlier arrival of wingers for his 4-3-3 scheme, while Paratici, on the other hand, was completely satisfied with the result achieved by the acquisition campaign, worth over 130 million euros. The debate would have taken place late yesterday evening, around 11:00 p.m., and was decisive in creating a rift between the two and subsequently leading to the dismissal of the coach, despite the fact that Fiorentina had previously admitted that they still wanted to trust the coach.
