F1/ Antonelli in history: wins at Monza after starting from the back: Ferrari a disaster

Apotheosis for driver Kimi Antonelli at Monza. Starting from the penultimate row, the World Championship leader makes twenty-six overtakes and wins the Italian Grand Prix, overtaking, three laps from the end in Variante Ascari, the Mercedes of George Russell, the same model as his. Kimi had tried to overtake Russell four laps from the end, but ended up in the gravel of the rescue zone in Prima Variante.

Max Verstappen finished third on the podium, ahead of the two McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. This is the first victory by an Italian driver at Monza, sixty years after Ludovico Scarfiotti's success with Ferrari. Antonelli becomes the youngest driver to win at Monza, the first Italian to win seven Grands Prix in a single season and equals Russell in terms of World Championship victories.

Black Sunday for Ferrari: Charles Leclerc was involved in an accident at the Parabolica/Alboreto corner at the end of the second lap, as the Monegasque driver was trying to defend himself from Oscar Piastri. The accident caused the race to be red-flagged.

After a trip to the track's medical centre, Leclerc returned to the pits, with some muscle pain but essentially unharmed. Lewis Hamilton did not get higher than sixth place. In the braking for Prima Variante, on the first start, he attempted to attack Leclerc at the entrance to the chicane, but was then forced to widen the trajectory and ended up on the gravel on the exit.

After Hamilton, the top ten at Monza continues with Pierre Gasly in seventh place, who started from pole position. Behind him, the English debutant Arvid Lindblad was increasingly convincing, who, driving the Racing Bulls, left behind the second Alpine of Franco Colapinto. The latter ended a race on the climb that had started with a gravel exit between the two Lesmo turns. Yuki Tsunoda took tenth place with the other Racing Bulls, but the Japanese driver is under investigation for a violation of the starting procedure.
