During the match played at Ajax's field, he lost control and interfered dangerously with Aaron Bouwman, knocking him down with a foul that sent him to the hospital. It was an incomprehensible act, committed under the eyes of his father, who was in the stands to watch the match.
The Ajax defender was taken to hospital for medical checks as a precaution and was found to have a contusion to his lung and sternum, injuries that will keep him out for at least a month. What's more, the Dutch striker was not even shown a red card for his tackle, as the referee deemed it unintentional and decided not to send him off.

Van Bommel's serious interference
It was a very ugly scene for the fans, which took place around the 80th minute, when PSV were already 2-1 up. In an attempt to recover a ball aimed at Bouwman, van Bommel rushed at him at full speed, hitting him directly in the sternum with the side of his body.
An unjustified violent tackle, which then caused a clash between the two teams, calmed down with difficulty by the referee. The Ajax defender was taken to hospital and, fortunately, escaped with only a contusion to his sternum and lung, which is expected to heal in a few weeks.
The Dutchman was only shown a yellow card by the referee for his tackle, even though Ajax players strongly demanded a red card for the violent and dangerous tackle. He forcefully tackled Bouwman, risking causing him much more serious injuries, although the tackle was deemed unintentional. At the end of the match, van Bommel went to the opponents' dressing room to apologize and appeared shaken, clearly remorseful for the serious tackle he had made on the pitch a short while earlier.
