An explosion caused a fire at an arms depot in central Bulgaria overnight, near the village of Tsareva Livada.
Authorities say no one was injured, but the flames spread from one warehouse to another.
The fire broke out at a facility managed by Bulgarian arms company EMCO, according to local media citing a company official.
The governor of the Gabrovo region, Kristina Sidorova, stated in the early hours of Saturday that the fire was located in the factory's warehouse area and was spreading to other buildings.
The incident is the second of its kind at an EMCO-related facility in as many weeks. Another explosion at a company facility was reported last month.
The cause of the explosion is not yet known. Reuters reported that it was unable to immediately reach EMCO for comment on the incident.
The company is run by Bulgarian arms dealer Emilian Gebrev, who has previously been the subject of allegations of attacks on his properties by Russian agents.
In 2024, Bulgarian authorities issued arrest warrants for six Russian citizens suspected of involvement in the explosions that destroyed EMCO weapons depots. According to Bulgarian prosecutors, these depots stored ammunition intended for export to Ukraine and Georgia during the period 2011–2020.
The Bulgarian prosecution had also stated that there was a possible connection between explosions at weapons depots in Bulgaria, an attempted poisoning of Emilian Gebrev in 2015, and explosions recorded in 2014 at ammunition depots in the Czech Republic.
Russia has denied any involvement in these incidents. Meanwhile, Bulgarian authorities continue to investigate the circumstances of the latest explosion.
