Two people have been arrested in London on suspicion of assisting a foreign intelligence service in an investigation into criminal offences linked to Iran.
A 42-year-old woman and a 60-year-old man were arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of providing assistance to a foreign intelligence service, and are being investigated under the UK's National Security Act.
According to foreign media reports, after the arrest, the two suspects were released on bail and are expected to appear again for further proceedings at the end of October. British authorities have clarified that the investigation is not related to the series of incidents recorded during the months of March-May, which targeted the Jewish community and individuals or institutions linked to Iran in London.
Several attacks were reported during this period, including an arson attack on a Jewish community ambulance, as well as incidents against a synagogue, a former synagogue, the Persian-language media outlet Iran International, and a memorial wall dedicated to victims in Iran.
