An extremely serious revelation about the days leading up to the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, has been published by the Israeli newspaper “ Haaretz ” which claims that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had received clear warnings that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar was preparing a large-scale action against Israel.
According to the published investigation, about a week and a half before October 7, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, contacted the Israeli Prime Minister by phone and warned him that the then-leader of Hamas in Gaza was planning "a major operation."
Haaretz attributes this information to three high-ranking foreign sources who were aware of its contents. The report is part of research that was included in the book “Hostage: 843 Days of Abandonment,” based on dozens of sources in Israel and abroad, audio recordings, internal documents and correspondence.
Netanyahu's office categorically rejected the claim, calling the investigation "an absolute lie" and stating that the prime minister had not spoken to the UAE president during the period in question nor had he received any relevant warning.
According to Haaretz, Mohammed bin Zayed had repeatedly expressed concerns about the situation in the region. Israeli President Isaac Herzog acknowledged that the Emirati leader had spoken to him frequently in the months leading up to the war about the need to reduce tensions and had even gone so far as to send a special envoy to Israel.
However, in late September, bin Zayed decided to address Netanyahu personally. The conversation, according to the report, lasted about 45 minutes. The UAE president warned that Yahya Sinwar was preparing a major operation against Israel and expressed fears that such an event would cause bloodshed, destabilize the entire region and jeopardize the Abraham Accords.
Also present at the conversation was a close advisor to Bin Zayed, a Palestinian who had fled Gaza and maintained strong contacts there. According to him, the Emirati leader told Netanyahu that Israel should be on alert, while also proposing economic measures for Gaza and reducing tensions in the West Bank.
According to the publication, Netanyahu reacted relatively calmly, assessing that Hamas was mainly preparing for actions in the West Bank and assuring that Israel was ready for any eventuality.

Seeing no Israeli reaction, Bin Zayed reportedly decided to speak to Netanyahu himself in late September. According to Haaretz, the Israeli prime minister did not inform the head of the Shin Bet, the director of Mossad, or the commander of the Israeli army of this communication.
Former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar and former IDF chief Herzi Halevi told the newspaper that they were not informed of the UAE president's warning. A senior Shin Bet official claimed that if the agency had known that other such warnings had preceded it, it might have assessed Shinwar's threat differently.
"Maybe we could have put the pieces together and arrived at a completely different assessment," he says.
Haaretz also reports a phone call from Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel to Netanyahu's office. According to a report by journalist Smadar Peri cited by the newspaper, Kamel had warned of "something unusual, a terrible operation" that Hamas was about to launch.
Netanyahu reportedly responded that in Gaza "we have the view, we have the control" and that the real problem was in the West Bank, where forces were also being transferred. On 1 October, just 6 days before the attack, Ronen Barr again recommended strikes against senior Hamas figures, including Sinwar.
The response attributed to Netanyahu was: “You prepare the plans for me and I will review them.” According to an official who attended the meeting, the prime minister concluded with the directive: “Continue working on the possibility, but for now calm the situation.” At this meeting, Haaretz reports, he did not mention the warnings he had allegedly received.
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office denied the investigation. “Prime Minister Netanyahu did not speak to the president of the United Arab Emirates during the period in question and did not receive any warning from him,” it said in its response, describing the investigation as a “complete lie.” Haaretz reports that it also sought comment from the president of the United Arab Emirates, but has not received a response. ©LAPSI.al
