Israel destroyed underground infrastructure belonging to the pro-Iranian Hezbollah movement in southern Lebanon on Tuesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz announced.
"The Israeli army destroyed the underground infrastructure of the Hezbollah terrorist organization on Ali Taher Hill, a position of strategic importance for Hezbollah, thus completing the creation of the security zone in southern Lebanon," Netanyahu and Katz said in a joint statement.

"This is a strategic terrorist infrastructure that was built over two decades, with Iranian funding and planning," they added. After the Israeli military announced that it had blown up underground tunnels belonging to the pro-Iranian movement Hezbollah, the US Geological Survey (USGS) announced that it had recorded a 4.1 magnitude earthquake in southern Lebanon.
The explosion was also felt by AFP journalists in Lebanon, while images released by the Israeli Defense Ministry showed a fireball rising into the sky.
In Lebanon, the official national news agency ANI reported that Israel had carried out a bombing operation. An AFP correspondent said he felt tremors before hearing a loud explosion, while another reported that shock waves reached the southern city of Sidon, which is about 40km from the capital.
Israel announced that its forces will remain in the region to prevent Hezbollah from reestablishing its presence and rebuilding its capabilities. ©LAPSI.al
