Plane crashes in Germany, 3 dead

Three people died on Monday after a small plane crashed in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

It is a Cessna 172 aircraft, which had taken off this morning from the area north of Utrecht, in the Netherlands.

After entering German airspace, the plane crashed at around 11:20 a.m. near the village of Gerderath, near the town of Erkelenz.

According to German media reports, the four-seater plane ended up in a field and was severely damaged, being almost completely destroyed by the collision.

German police confirmed that there were three people on board the plane. All died at the scene.
