An early division within the opposition, which has always been there but has been kept under control, suddenly turned in recent days into a fierce clash, with mutual accusations. Sali Berisha and Arlind Qori have openly come out against each other with accusations of collaboration with Edi Rama and of sabotaging the protests against the government. The leader of the Democratic Party attacked the leader of the Together Movement again this Sunday, describing him as part of an opposition that works for the interests of the prime minister. On the other hand, Qori, in a video released on Saturday from the protest, had accused Berisha of being Rama's partner in crime and of trying to survive politically.
The cause of Berisha's outburst against Arlind Qori was the calls since June during the protests "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison", the quarrels of DP supporters that arose when they joined the flamingo protests, and the categorical rejection that was made to Democratic Party deputies at rallies, up to threats and violence to remove them.
Berisha's accusations about Qori: Rama's Jago in protests

Berisha claims that the slogans equating the DP with the SP are intended to hinder the participation of the Democrats in the protests. He said that for a long time, the Democratic Party had been silent, so as not to disrupt the protest, but now it has realized that it was betrayed by "traitors" and "Jago".
"But that protest, for a number of reasons that this is not the moment, with all our support and our decision, firstly not to divide it, secondly to participate as much as possible in the protest, thirdly by inviting the widest possible cooperation, that protest with all its unique highlights, the extraordinary creativity of its decor and scenario, was unfortunately betrayed by Jago and traitors whom history will never forgive," Berisha declared.
According to him, the responsibility falls on what he calls "the opposition's opposition", which, instead of focusing on overthrowing the government, sought to compete with the Democratic Party for representing civic discontent.
Po i vjedh, bashkë me oligarkët, bashkë me kriminelët.
Qori also claimed that Berisha's supporters have exerted pressure and threatened citizens, but according to him, this call did not come from the Together Movement, but "comes from the soul of every citizen who has been robbed for 35 years."
"Sali Berisha and his followers have been accusing everyone, every person, and even physically threatening them because citizens shout 'Rama in prison, Berisha in prison' during the protest. This call does not arise from the Together Movement, although we agree 100% with such a call. It comes from the soul of every citizen who has been robbed and humiliated by this pair of men, Edi Rama and Sali Berisha, for 35 years," declared Qori.
Why did the Berisha-Qori conflict escalate?
The clash between Berisha and Qori has its origins in the protests that began in June against the tourist project in the Zvërnec area, where opposition to interventions in an area of environmental importance turned into a broader civic movement. The rallies, also known as the flamingo protests, initially focused on protecting nature and opposing projects linked to large economic interests, but these did not have the support of the Democratic Party from the beginning, leaving room for the cries of "Rama in prison, Berisha in prison."
Over time, the mobilization expanded, including citizens raising demands for education, the cost of living, the state of hospitals, the lack of justice, corruption, and government accountability for these phenomena. In October, the protests escalated into violent clashes with the police, and there were cases when democratic deputies were expelled.
The initially civic character of the movement and the refusal to identify with a party, especially with the traditional parties, have created a frustration in the Democratic Party, which belatedly joined the flamingo protest on the boulevard and that of the students in recent weeks. In the last protest called on the boulevard, however, the DP deputies came out to lead the protest to openly identify with the rally.
But beyond the interests of one or the other political force, what remains at this stage is the open battle within the opposition that begins about six months before the local elections. It remains to be seen whether the Berisha-Qori clash makes it easier for Rama to confront the opposition or directs the votes of those dissatisfied with Rama towards the Joint Movement./Lapsi.al
