The leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, Lumir Abdixhiku, said that six MPs from his party have come out against Bekim Sejdiu's candidacy for the post of president. The Vetëvendosje Movement - which together with the LDK proposed Sejdiu for president - considered this an inappropriate decision.
Abdixhiku announced the MPs' objections to Sejdiu's nomination after the LDK Parliamentary Group meeting.
"With great regret for the people of Kosovo and the fate of the Republic, six LDK MPs have decided not to respect the LDK's decision, specifically Avdullah Hoti, Hykmete Bajrami, Arben Gashi, Armend Zemaj, Kujtim Shala and Janina Ymeri, have declared that they will not vote for the proposed candidate," Abdixhiku said in a press conference.
He added that this is causing "irreparable damage to the entire process" and "inevitably and unnecessarily, by missing an extraordinary opportunity for Kosovo, they are sending the country to elections."
Abdixhiku said that he only has 12 deputies available and will go to the hall with them when the vote for president is held, adding that efforts will be made until the end to secure the numbers for the president.
"I, along with 12 MPs, will be the 12th in the hall when the vote is taken. We will make efforts until the last moment," he said.
Abdixhiku said he apologizes to the people of Kosovo, that "with all our good will, we are not managing to provide stability due to a perverted policy."
"I have endured, I can no longer endure this division, this Parliamentary Group," he said, adding that he does not understand the zeal to go to the elections.
He accused the six MPs who opposed Sejdiu's nomination of acting for personal interests.
"Most of these figures have extraordinary political experience in LDK and should overcome themselves. This was not a competition for me, it was not a battle with me. The battle with me ended in the LDK Assembly. This was a battle for the Republic of Kosovo," he said.
Abdixhiku said that measures will be taken against the six MPs, but did not indicate what they will be.
"We will deal with decisions, but this is not the topic. But, in any case, every person who does not respect the decisions of the leadership and bodies should at least feel like a representative of the LDK. If nothing else, we should hand over the mandate of the deputy," he said.
Abdixhiku said that Bekim Sejdiu would provide institutional balance. He said that refusing to support this candidacy would have "consequences for future election results."
Positions of LDK MPs

“Askush nuk mund ta negociojë votën e një deputeti dhe pastaj, nëse nuk e merr atë votë, ta bëjë deputetin përgjegjës për zgjedhje të reja”, shkroi ajo.
Një ditë më parë, deputeti i LDK-së, Avdullah Hoti, po ashtu publikisht tha se është kundër Sejdiut, duke thënë se ai nuk pasqyron interesat parimore dhe politike të LDK-së.
Ndërkaq, pas mbledhjes të së martës, Hoti u shpreh qartë se nuk do të qëndrojë në sallë për të bërë kuroumin për votimin për president.
Ndërkaq, deputetja tjetër që ka dalë kundër Sejdiut, Janina Ymeri tha se me gjithë “pasojat për pozitën time brenda partisë” ka vendosur që të mos votojë për “zgjatjen e pushtetit” të Kurtit.
“Kandidati për president, në anën tjetër, nuk kishte as profil e as pavarësi që të sillte balancë pushteti dhe forcë ndaj kapjes nga Vetëvendosja”, shkroi ajo në rrjetet sociale.
Kujtim Shala tha se nuk ka votë për Sejdiun pasi "gjithmonë" është "kundër bashkëpunimit me Albin Kurtin".
Këto zhvillime vijnë teksa, Lëvizja Vetëvendosje mbrëmjen e sotme po mban mbledhjen e Grupit Parlamentar për të diskutuar për çështjen e presidentit.
Kryetari i LVV-së, njëherësh kryeministri në detyrë i Kosovës, Albin Kurti, tha se ka pasur vullnet për marrëveshje që vendi të ketë president të ri.
Këtë vullnet, “e kemi shndërruar me LDK në marrëveshje me emrin e përveçëm të profesor Bekim Sejdiut”, tha ai.
Kurti tha se një natë më parë është takuar kryesia e LVV-së dhe pas takimit me Grupin Parlamentar, do të prononcohet për media.
Ndërkaq, Arbërie Nagavci nga LVV-ja, tha për mediat se ky vendim i deputetëve të LDK-së është në dëm të interesave të qytetarëve.
“Konsideroj që t’i thuhet jo një propozimi të përbashkët, që ka për qëllim shmangien e zgjedhjeve të reja dhe konstituimin e institucioneve, nuk është një vendim i duhur dhe në interes të qytetarëve dhe Republikës së Kosovës”
E pyetur nëse do të kërkojnë që të arrijnë votat për president, duke biseduar me Partinë Demokratike të Kosovës dhe Aleancën, Nagavci u shpreh:
“Ju i dini qëndrimet e Aleancës dhe PDK-së. Gjithsesi unë pres dhe besoj që secili deputet duhet të jetë në nivel të përgjegjësisë dhe të bëjë gjithçka që është në mandatin e tij dhe përfundimisht të dilet nga ky ngërç dhe të konstituohen institucionet”.
The Parliamentary Group meeting came after the LDK convened its party leadership where it approved the agreement reached with the Vetëvendosje Movement, and called on its MPs to vote for Bekim Sejdiu as president of Kosovo.
In a statement, the LDK said that Sejdiu's nomination for chairmanship was supported "with complete unanimity."
"The Presidency calls on the deputies of the LDK Parliamentary Group to, during the voting process, act in accordance with the authorizations of the party's Assembly, the decision of the Presidency and the responsibility they bear as representatives of the Democratic League of Kosovo," the statement said after the LDK Presidency meeting.
According to the decisions of the LDK Party Assembly, held at the end of July, it was stated that all members, officials, elected officials and representatives of the LDK are "obliged to respect and implement the decisions approved by the competent bodies" of the party.
It also states that party bodies must ensure that decisions are implemented and, when necessary, "take statutory measures against violators."
The LDK said that Sejdiu's nomination represents "the official and institutional position of the LDK" and was taken in accordance with the mandate given by the LDK Assembly.
Before the presidency meeting, Jehona Lushaku Sadriu said that in addition to the issue of the president, the meeting will also discuss the constitution of the Assembly and all institutions "as soon as possible."
Asked whether the party had previously agreed on Sejdiu's name, she said that the party chairman, Lumir Abdixhiku, and the negotiating team had the authorization to negotiate on behalf of the party for the candidate's name.
The presentation of Bekim Sejdiu as a presidential candidate by LVV and LDK took place on August 31, after several weeks of negotiations between the two parties.
For his election as president, the presence of at least 80 deputies in the Assembly hall, which has a total of 120 seats, is required.
Albin Kurti's LVV won 53 seats in the June elections and, together with the deputies of non-majority communities, has at least 61 votes, sufficient to constitute the Assembly and form the new Government.
With the 12 votes - out of 18 MPs that LDK has - that Abdixhiku said he has, the threshold of 80 votes for the election of the president is not reached.
The other two Albanian parties, the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Alliance, have declared that they do not have a vote for the candidacy presented by the LVV and LDK. /Taken from Radio Free Europe
