The Serbian Progressive Party, SNS, unanimously proposed Aleksandar Vučić as a candidate for prime minister in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Serbia, also giving him the role of the bearer of the "Vučić - United Serbia" electoral list.
The decision was made at a meeting of the SNS General Council in Niš. In his speech, Vučić focused at length on the Kosovo issue, which remains one of the main topics of political discourse in Serbia. Taking stock of the years of SNS rule, the Serbian head of state admitted that the party has made mistakes, but insisted that, in his opinion, it remains the political force that most responsibly defends Serbian national interests.
In this context, the Serbian president criticized previous governments for the developments that led first to the declaration of independence of Montenegro and then to the declaration of independence of Kosovo, which he described as one of the developments that, according to him, was accompanied by serious consequences for the Serbian community. An important part of the speech was also dedicated to international justice institutions, especially the Hague Tribunal.
"I received mandatory orders to arrest radicals, to arrest Seselj. I am proud that I have not handed over any Serb to The Hague. I am proud and I walk with my head held high in this country for this. I withstood all the pressures," declared Vučić, quoted by Serbian media, as he seemed to have reiterated once again that "Serbia cannot accept a compromise that implies recognition of Kosovo's independence."
