Ilir Alimehmeti, invited to the "News24" studio, commented on the preparations for the upcoming local race for the leadership of the Municipality of Tirana, focusing on the rivalry within the majority as well as the model that the opposition should follow for the selection of the candidate.
Focusing on the names discussed within the ranks of the Socialist Party as possible candidates, such as Erion Braçe or Ogerta Manastirliu, Alimehmeti stated that more than a development offer for the capital, the majority is seeing an internal rivalry for power.
Asked about the strategy of the DP and its allies in the upcoming local elections, Alimehmeti underlined that the race must overcome narrow political acronyms and offer citizens a radical change in the system of governance.
Regarding the selection of the name that will represent the opposition, he explained that a structured process will be followed - whether through primaries, selection or a special commission - while officially confirming that he will be part of this internal competition.
"The DP and its allies will sit down and discuss the model of how they will approach the race for local government. I think this should go beyond political slogans, we should go for a change in the system and the model of governance. It will be a process, either a primary, a selection, or a commission to decide. I will be involved in that kind of process, but what they will decide remains to be seen," he concluded.
