The fire that started this afternoon in the village of Vadhizë, Fier, has grown to large proportions just a few hours after the first fire broke out.
As Top Channel reports, the flames that started in the village of Vadhiza have advanced towards Levan, and according to residents, three houses, a warehouse that produces beehives and a business have been burned.
Favored by strong winds and high temperatures, the fire has spread rapidly, burning through large areas of olive groves, pine forests, shrubs, and houses.
In the afternoon, the flames approached two premises near the lake, in the area of Qafë e Koshovicës. Although the intervention of the firefighting forces was immediate, the strong wind spread the flames over a very wide area, significantly making intervention from the ground difficult.
A bar and an uninhabited house have burned down in the Qafë e Koshovicës area, while air intervention has also begun.
Two helicopters have also arrived to assist the firefighting forces, which have intervened from the air to neutralize the most problematic fires.
The flames also crossed the Fier-Levan national road, forcing the police to temporarily block traffic on this axis, due to the danger and dense smoke.
The fire has continued to progress, burning the dense forest and has rapidly advanced towards the village of Peshtan i Vogël.
Due to the flames approaching residential areas, numerous police forces have begun evacuating residents. Around 15 families have been evacuated from their homes, while officers continue to monitor areas where the fire poses a risk to homes.
Meanwhile, several other outbreaks have been created, which has made the situation even more difficult to manage.
Numerous firefighting forces from Fier, Mallakastra, Lushnja, Vlora and Berat continue to be on the ground, along with the police and other emergency structures, in an ongoing battle with the flames.
The firefighting operation continues, while the situation remains critical due to strong winds, which favor the rapid spread of flames to other areas. /TCH
