Tirana in flames and with bloodied students, Rama in Luxembourg: We closed

Albania closes negotiations on Chapter 20 "Enterprise and Industrial Policies" today, while Prime Minister Edi Rama, from Luxembourg, said that the integration process is progressing according to plan and that the aim is to close even more chapters by the end of the year.

Upon arrival at the European Convention Center, Rama stated that the closing of another chapter reconfirms that Albania's path towards the European Union is irreversible.

"Well, we are back to close another chapter and to reaffirm that progress towards our historic objective is unstoppable. In the meantime, I have just held several encouraging meetings regarding the next steps. So, the plan is very ambitious. Within this year, we aim to close even more chapters and I am absolutely convinced that, as far as we are concerned, we will fulfill all obligations within the set deadlines," said Rama.

Asked about the number of chapters that Albania will close by the end of this year, Rama did not give numbers but said that it will be double.

"I'm not dealing with numbers, but I'm simply saying that today we close another chapter, bringing the number to four. And there are at least double that number that are expected to close within this year. Let's see!"

Veton Surroi: The crisis in Albania in seven points

One solution would be to create the legal and political conditions for free and fair elections next year. For the elections to produce a way out of the crisis, a special package of electoral guarantees should be prepared that, among other things, would limit in advance the influence of illicit money, the misuse of state resources, and inequality in access to the media.
