The Assembly returns to activity this Tuesday after the summer recess. Deputies will gather at 17:00 for the opening of the new parliamentary session. The first session is expected to be mainly formal. At the start of the proceedings, the procedure for the new Minister of Health, Klodiana Spahiu, is also expected. After the decree by the President, she can take the oath in the Assembly. The Socialists are also expected to propose a new name for the position of Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, which was previously held by Spahiu.
DP leader Sali Berisha, who is in the United States, is not expected to be in the hall. It remains unclear whether Prime Minister Edi Rama will participate in the session.
The return of the MPs will also be accompanied by a protest outside the Parliament. Citizens who have been protesting for nearly 100 days have announced a rally in front of the building, while the police are expected to take increased security measures.
The new session is expected to bring territorial reform back to the center. The Socialists have proposed reducing the number of municipalities from 61 to 46, an issue that has opened a debate with the opposition. In the background are the local elections of 2027, which are expected to occupy an increasingly large place on the political agenda of the majority and the opposition.
