The civic protest held in the center of Tirana marked this Monday, September 7, its 100th day of civic revolt against the political class. As every day, citizens began gathering at Skanderbeg Square to continue their march towards the Prime Minister's Office building, where speeches were given by the protest organizers and protesters.
The protesters' demand remains the non-negotiable resignation of the country's Prime Minister Edi Rama and the annulment of the law on protected areas.
The 100th protest featured the return of one of the most unique protesters, who caused a stir with her slogans. She said that she made the best decision to return and that her slogans, despite some not liking them, will continue to be so.
"You have given me life and hope, you have renewed me again. Truly, when I came to the protests, I saw that they had waited for me. No one is taking us away from the protests. This kind of protest, my group of the People's Defense Committee that was arrested in 1989, was demanding such a protest and it was realized after so many years. Years do not matter, I do not age. I was tired, stressed and blackmailed. I had slogans that some people do not like to see," she said.
Another protester expressed his gratitude to everyone who came out to form the opposition at a time when it was nonexistent and the government was selling the country out. He expressed his belief that the objective of this initiative, namely the overthrow of the system, will be achieved.
"The homeland is in danger and you came out to defend it. You came out at a time when there was no one to defend it, the government was selling it out, the opposition was nonexistent. You came out to be the opposition. Gratitude for coming out to this square for 100 days. We are enthusiastic about achieving the main objective, the overthrow of this government and the creation of a technical government to take the fate of our nation into our own hands," said the protester.
On the 100th day of the protest, there were also spicy banners prepared by protesters who stated that they will continue to protest. Among the banners displayed during the rally are: “One square, thousands of voices”; “SPAK is asleep and does not make arrests, these eggs on Parliament are for these sentences”; “100 days of loyal presence, Albania is burning, politics is being created”. ©LAPSI.al
