Residents of the Patisia neighborhood of Athens witnessed a scene straight out of the "Far West" in the early hours of Monday morning. Unknown individuals shot a 55-year-old man of Albanian origin outside his house, lightly wounding him in the leg.
The incident occurred shortly after 4:30 a.m. when two people riding a motorcycle opened fire on the 55-year-old man. The bullets hit the victim in the leg, who was taken by ambulance and transported to Gennimatas Hospital, where he is being treated for an ankle injury that is not life-threatening.
Greek media have published footage of what happened in the area after the incident. The Albanian, whose identity is unknown, received first aid from residents of the area until a Greek Police patrol car arrived. According to information, the perpetrators fled in an unknown direction, while the police found 3 shell casings at the scene.
It is learned that the 55-year-old told the police that the perpetrators tried to steal his bicycle and that they shot him when he reacted. The police, however, seem cautious towards this version and are considering all possibilities for the motives of the attack. The police are checking the tracks on the motorcycle to see if the Albanian's version holds up.
" Protothema " writes that the 55-year-old has no criminal past, as do his family members. However, the police find it difficult to explain the armed attack only as a reaction to an attempted theft of a bicycle and are continuing investigations to determine what exactly is behind the incident. ©LAPSI.al
