The European Democrats have reacted again to the police violence against young people in yesterday's protest at the Ministry of Education and in the streets of Tirana. They are calling on Prime Minister Rama to bear political responsibility for the violence.
The European Democrats took the example of the police bleeding the young man Klevin Meta, as well as the young man whose leg was broken by police officers and who lost consciousness. The images and videos coming from Tirana are deeply disturbing.
We have all seen the shocking footage of a young man with a severely broken leg being carried away by police officers. Reports of excessive use of police force, violent clashes and injuries throughout the capital raise extremely serious questions.
Edi Rama must take political responsibility for what is happening. Albania's European future cannot be built on confrontation or the erosion of faith in democracy. It requires dialogue, accountability, respect for fundamental rights and the rule of law.
