The Democratic Party is urging the government to urgently intervene to reduce the fiscal burden on fuel, as the price of oil in Albania has reached record levels. In a statement to the media, MP Eno Bozdo said that oil is being traded at around 229 lek per liter, or around 2.5 euros, placing Albania among the countries with the highest oil prices in Europe and above the regional average.
According to him, the high price is burdening not only households, but also businesses and the manufacturing and service sectors. "The main reason today for such high diesel prices in Albania is the very high fiscal burden," declared Bozdo, claiming that the fiscal burden constitutes about 53% of the final price of diesel.
He emphasized that the price of fuel includes excise duty, circulation tax, carbon tax and 20% VAT, arguing that Albanians pay a higher fiscal burden than citizens of countries in the region.
