Former Director of the State Police, Gledis Nano, invited to the show "The Unexposed" on Vizion Plus, spoke about the police's management of the protest.
Nano expressed some criticism regarding the avoidance of protocol in some cases, while saying that the Police appeared "disorganized".
"I have followed the situation, I want to say that it is a slightly complicated situation. Crowd management requires commitment and professionalism. I do not agree with the use of violence, as it does not justify the demands of the protesters, but I must mention the role or duties of the State Police in managing the protests.
"I have seen some videos, I don't want to be harsh, to come to a decision, because they have to be seen in complexity, I have noticed that the police forces have had a kind of discord, or have not been so organized in such situations. Even the situation makes you maybe make mistakes on the ground, but we claim to have police according to EU standards, which have been trained by various international colleagues. We cannot accept such cases that we have seen," said Nano.
"We should not generalize the student protest with violent protesters. It is unacceptable that businesses are being destroyed, that perhaps the families who created them have suffered and have their investments in them. Many have called me and asked me what to do. The police must apply a certain standard.
In the videos I've seen, I can't accept that the police break protocol. We have a "riot unit", which are FNSH, dedicated and trained, who manage activities from cultural ones to violent protests. I can't accept that a group of police officers break protocol and chase people with batons in their hands, it doesn't leave a good professional taste.
We cannot generalize the entire work of the state police. These people need to be analyzed, some have even been suspended. Why doesn't the police intervene? In the conditions I am in today, I can't say whether it is version one or two. Is the police obliged to obtain information before these activities occur? Did they? I don't know.
"I did not blame any police chief, but I said that if there are specific cases where the police have shown a lack of professionalism, abuse of duty, these police officers should be held accountable," Nano said. /Taken with abbreviations from TPZ.al
