Turkey has requested the issuance of an Interpol "red notice" for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The reason was the attack on activists on board the "Global Sumud Flotilla", which was transporting humanitarian aid to Gaza. On Friday, Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek stated that the proceedings are continuing before the Istanbul Criminal Court and involve a total of 35 defendants, including Netanyahu. They are accused of genocide.
Following the issuance of the arrest warrants, the Turkish Ministry of Justice requested the Ministry of Interior to initiate the necessary procedures for issuing Interpol red notices against the defendants. The relevant documents have also been sent to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Netanyahu will face a series of serious charges. These include “crimes against humanity,” “genocide,” “grave deprivation of liberty,” “intentional bodily harm,” “torture,” “damage to property,” “grave robbery,” and “hijacking or seizure of means of transportation.”
In a statement, Netanyahu's office accused the Turkish president of trying to expand the confrontation with Israel in Syria.
"Erdogan is now seeking to expand his aggression against Israel into Syria. Israel will not tolerate this," she said.
The Israeli prime minister's office repeated previous accusations against Erdogan, describing him as an "anti-Semitic dictator" and accusing him of attacking Kurds, harboring Hamas terrorists, occupying the northern part of Cyprus and imprisoning a large number of journalists and politicians who disagree with him. ©LAPSI.al
