The proposal for territorial reorganization has clashed positions in Cërrik, where the Municipal Council has expressed strong reservations about the municipality's inclusion in a single administrative unit with Elbasan.
During today's meeting, councilors raised concerns that such a merger could make it more difficult for residents to access public services. According to them, the removal of the administrative center could also negatively affect the development of the area and increase the problem of residents leaving.
The debate was also held in the presence of opposition MPs, Blendi Himçi and Klodiana Çapja. Himçi asked Mayor Florenc Doka for a position on the proposal, while during the discussions questions were also raised about the manner and timing of community consultations.
Doka chose not to give a final position yet, arguing that the process of hearings with citizens must first be completed. The idea of deciding the issue through a local referendum was also raised at the meeting.
In the end, the councilors voted in favor of holding public hearings, leaving the determination of the municipality's final position for a later stage.
According to the preliminary draft of the territorial reform, Cërriku and Belshi are included in the scheme that envisages their merger with the Municipality of Elbasan.
