Residents of neighborhood 15 in Durrës protested this morning about the situation created at the former Bus Park, where urban waste trucks continue to deposit their loads. Used as a daily collection point before the waste is transported to the Sharra landfill, this space in Spitalë has become a hotbed of pollution for residents living in the surrounding buildings.
According to the residents, the landfill that was created as a temporary solution has been operating for years, while the special transit site promised by the Municipality has not yet been built. In this hot summer, the heavy smell of waste penetrates into the apartments, while repeated complaints to the Municipality, according to them, have not yet brought a solution. Today, the residents blocked the movement of trucks for about an hour, demanding the intervention of the institutions to relocate the landfill and a permanent solution to the problem.
One of the residents of the neighborhood describes the difficulties this garbage dump causes in his daily life.
"There are over 300 families affected. We are not here for political reasons, not to say that all those protesting here are all socialists. We have come out for our problem, for our children. We have not opened the windows for over 3 years, it is impossible. We are asking for the garbage to be removed, for the most minimal thing to be done. The directors who work in the municipal services to come and stay here for just 30 minutes and understand what is happening," the resident says.
