Alvaro Morata was the protagonist of an evening to be forgotten as soon as possible with Leganés in the second division of Spanish football. The striker, a former player of Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Milan and Como, has so far disappointed a lot. Since his arrival at Leganés, the team has collected only 4 points out of a possible 21, while Morata has not yet scored a single goal and has not provided a single assist. But in the home defeat against Cordoba, even more happened. Morata was not activated as a starter by his coach and entered the field after the 60th minute.
After a fierce protest against the referee, Morata was first shown a yellow card and then sent off by the match referee. The former Juventus striker attempted to shake the referee's hand in a mocking manner, but the latter refused and turned his back on him. Morata, however, did not calm down. As he left the pitch towards the dressing rooms, he addressed the assistant referee and the fourth official, confronting them almost head-on. A truly ugly scene ensued, with teammates having to intervene to remove him, avoiding an escalation of the situation.
Alvaro Morata is having a TERRIBLE time in the Spanish Second Division! ❌ He was sent off tonight, and is without a goal since January... 😬 He won the EUROs 2 years ago btw... 📉 https://t.co/DgFftBlcSR

It is not the first time that Morata has been involved in such outbursts of anger. Last season, he was the protagonist of a verbal and physical clash with defender Mina in the Como-Cagliari match, an episode that had greatly angered Fabregas. Today, at Leganés, he should have found the opportunity to recover, but the return to Spain so far can be considered a nightmare. Morata appeared nervous from the moment he entered the field, receiving a yellow card after ten minutes, before exploding in the extra minutes, in what seemed like a nervous breakdown. The team's performances are not satisfying Leganés or its fans.
Those who expected Morata to be reborn in the Spanish second division have been forced to change their minds at this stage. Leganés were booed by the crowd as he left the pitch and are 17th in the La Liga Hypermotion standings, close to the relegation zone. Furthermore, Morata will miss the next match against Mallorca, who are fighting for promotion back to La Liga, further angering his fans. It remains to be seen what the Disciplinary Committee will decide on Morata's red card, as he risks being suspended for more than one match, depending on what he says to the referees and what the referee writes in his report.
