Former President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, gave an interview to the show "Debat Plus with Ermal Panduri" on RTV Dukagjini before the announcement of the decision by the Hague court. Thaçi called for a broad political agreement between the majority and the opposition in Kosovo.
The interview was conducted in writing. The questions (on the current political situation in Kosovo) were sent to Thaçi on March 9, 2026, while his answers were finalized on July 29, at 11:55.
At the time the questions were sent to The Hague, in March of this year, Kosovo was in an institutional impasse, with the political crisis related to the election of the president and the difficulties in making institutions functional.
But the political situation in Kosovo has not been resolved even a few months later.
It is now August, and the country continues to face a similar institutional situation. Elections have been held during this period, but political parties have still not reached an agreement on the creation of new institutions.
Precisely in this context, Thaçi, in his interview on Debat Plus, requested that political parties, regardless of whether they are in power or opposition, sit down at a table and reach agreement on several strategic issues.
He has mentioned national security, democratic reforms, electoral reform, foreign policy, international agreements, and defense investments as priorities.
"I think that Kosovar politics, the ruling party and the opposition, should sit at a table, discuss and agree on several common commitments: national security, democratic reforms, electoral reform (election of the president directly by the people, as an opportunity to avoid institutional crises), foreign policy, international agreements, investments in defense, integration into NATO and the EU, special relations with the US, then with Albania and eventually dialogue with Serbia, etc. ," said Thaçi.
This is Thaçi's last interview before the announcement of the verdict, while on September 16, at 10:00, the first instance verdict in the trial against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Rexhep Selimi and Jakup Krasniqi is expected to be announced in The Hague. /Taken from Dukagjini.com
