
The local agriculture and livestock authorities in the Gjirokastra region have identified four outbreaks of anthrax in livestock, or as it is popularly known, plasja. For each of the outbreaks, the measures foreseen have been taken in order to isolate the spread of the virus.
Since this disease can also be spread to humans through meat or milk, the veterinarian also provides advice especially for livestock farmers.
According to veterinarians, the anthrax virus is quite resistant in nature and can survive for up to 50 years, which causes areas where there have been cases to re-emerge from time to time.
