Protests have begun in several cities in Albania against the new Socialist Party proposal for Territorial Reform to merge several municipalities.
The Territorial Reform, which erases the Municipality of Dimal from the map of municipalities, has brought its residents to the square today to protest. Organized in the city's Pedonale and with banners in their hands, the residents of Dimal have demanded that the government not touch this municipality. The citizens have declared that this municipality is the city where they want to raise their children, it is the municipality with the largest agricultural production in the country.
Citizens have unanimously requested that this municipality not be affected by the Territorial Reform, not only for its vast extent and population, but also for its antiquity and historical values. According to the citizens, its unification with Berat makes life and the economy difficult, especially for farmers in the Administrative Units: Kutalli, Cukala, Poshnje, etc. The citizens of Dimal have all signed a petition against this reform.
There are also protests in Divjaka, who refuse to unite with Lushnja. The mayor of Divjaka, Josif Gorrea, said that he feels betrayed and that he still cannot believe this news.
Meanwhile, citizens have gathered in the center of Klos to oppose the new administrative-territorial draft map of the Socialist Party, which envisages the merger of the Klos Municipality and its unification with the Mat Municipality.
The protests began in the early hours of the morning, when the administration of the Klos Municipality boycotted work for several hours in protest against the proposed change. Citizens demand that Klos maintain its status as a separate municipality and express their opposition to decisions that, according to them, were made without extensive consultation with the community.
The municipality consists of 4 administrative units: Klos, Xibër, Suç and Gurrë, with the city of Klos as its center. There are also protests in Përrenjas, where residents of the area refuse to merge with Librazhd.
