A federal court in the US has overturned the suspension of immigrant visas for citizens of 75 countries, including Albania.
The ruling was handed down Friday by Judge Jeannette Vargas in Manhattan. She called the Trump administration's policy illegal and in violation of federal immigration law. According to the court, Secretary of State Marco Rubio had exceeded his authority by blocking the issuance of visas based on the nationality of applicants.
The measure was announced in January by the State Department. It affected citizens from 75 countries, including Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Colombia, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The lawsuit was filed by immigrant rights groups and applicants affected by the suspension.
