The 35th protest in front of the Prime Minister's Office began with the reading of a statement by the organizing group, by Dritan Goxhaj, wishing the USA a Happy Independence Day. While expressing the importance of this day and the impact it has on the entire world, it is said that democratic societies have the right to demand change when their trust is violated by the government.
"Today, on US Independence Day, we congratulate the American people on the 250th anniversary of Independence! The USA is a strategic ally of Albania and a friend of the Albanian people who have stood by us. On this day, we remember the Declaration of Independence.
It was the proclamation of a principle that continues to inspire people around the world, that governments derive their legitimacy from the governed. The Declaration of Independence reminds us that power is not the property of a government, but a trust placed in it by its citizens.
When this trust is violated, democratic societies have the right to seek change through democratic means. Happy 250th Anniversary of US Independence! May this be the day that freedom is not a gift of power, but a right of the people,” Goxhaj read.
