The protest held this Friday marks the 34th day of the civic revolt for the overthrow of the political class. Citizen Sidorela Vatnikaj, during her speech, spoke about the violence exerted against citizens during the protest in front of the Parliament, also highlighting the concerns raised by the Albanian Helsinki Committee regarding the violence exerted.
"After yesterday's event, we have prepared a statement. Statement against violence: Protest is a constitutional right, any attempt to intimidate or suppress it constitutes a violation of the fundamental right. We condemn the use of gas without warning, the pushing of protesters.
AHC monitoring has found that the police exceeded their powers. We ask the police to provide explanations and enable an independent investigation into the exceeding of their powers, and every officer must be held accountable.
"The violence against a protester in Zvërnec was not an isolated case because a group of protesters yesterday faced disproportionate violence. We demand their immediate release, arbitrary detentions and violence cannot be used as a means of intimidation," she said. /LAPSI.al
