The anti-government protests against Prime Minister Edi Rama continue today, entering their 44th consecutive day. On Sunday evening, thousands of citizens gathered in Skanderbeg Square before marching to the Prime Minister's Office and later through the streets of Tirana, once again calling for Rama's resignation and a complete overhaul of Albania's political establishment.
During the rally outside the Prime Minister's Office, speakers raised concerns over the country's economic situation, emigration, agriculture, and corruption. One of the main issues that dominated the protest was the government's decision to allocate more than €4 million from the emergency fund to support the Kanye West concert held in Tirana. Protesters described the expenditure as unjustifiable, arguing that the money should instead have been invested in sectors facing urgent needs.
Participants accused the government of misusing public funds and called for greater support for farmers, pensioners, healthcare, and infrastructure.
Activists also announced that today they will file a criminal complaint with SPAK (Albania's Special Anti-Corruption and Organized Crime Structure) against State Police Director Skënder Hita, alleging abuse of office. The complaint follows his recent statements regarding investigations into individuals who posted negative online reviews about businesses that activists claim are linked to the government.
As on previous evenings, the demonstration concluded with a march through central Tirana. Thousands of protesters passed through the former Blloku district carrying Albanian flags, banners, and chanting slogans against the government.
Organizers have called on citizens to join today's demonstration as well, stating that the protests will continue every evening until their demands are met, foremost among them the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
