Berisha: I vote with both hands for the Prime Minister to have two terms

DP leader Sali Berisha declared that he is ready to vote tomorrow on the constitutional amendment that stipulates that the prime minister should only have two terms at the head of the government. In an interview on the show “Off the Record” by Andrea Danglli on A2CNN, Berisha said that such a clause is useful in the conditions the country is in. The leading democrat stated that Prime Minister Edi Rama has become the “most hated dictator” for Albanians and the demand for term limits is well-founded.

"I am ready to vote for such a clause. Normally it does not stand, but is it useful? It is useful. Edi Rama made this a fact. When there is a person stripped of any moral norms, he is a greater national danger if he is not expected to serve two terms," said the leading democrat.

"I vote with both hands for such a thing. They bring it and I vote with both hands. I am a person who respects the Constitution. I am ready to vote for the constitutional amendment tomorrow. I do this because history has proven it, the fourth stolen mandate, that is why all of them are on the streets. This request has a basis in Albanian reality, after a man became a hated dictator. There was no such hatred even in 1991! He became a hated dictator by stealing the elections. Then it would be better if the Constitution did not allow a man like this to run more than twice. You mean you burn yourself to death with... but the country will be saved," said Berisha.

Berisha said that the Zvërnec project is not in accordance with the law.

"I do not support any project that does not comply with the law. In the case of Zvereni, it is absolutely not in accordance with the law. I acquire the property, the owner goes and says... I am a former prime minister and I cannot be moved by emotions, I judge based on the law. The owner says: Ask Ardit Bido whose land it is. He did not say it in vain. He told Rama. You have a dialogue with Rama, because he secretly went there and met. He told Mr. Prime Minister, ask Ardit Bido whose land it is. You cannot make an investment where there is a court process. I see that he had not applied any law," said Berisha.

"What are the laws? The law is this: In a protected natural landscape, national and international law determines that you may not be able to invest, but you can invest. If you decide to invest, you will implement 4 European conditions. This one has not applied any law, but just as if it were in his own garden. This one has issued a development permit and a construction permit, so that Albanians know. There is a construction permit. Not only has he issued a construction permit, but he has canceled that construction permit with a notary. He has issued a permit without fulfilling any conditions. I have made it public point by point. How do you hide it?! He issued a construction permit in January, and not one, but two permits. He has requested the builder to cancel them with a notary. The project has violated national and international law," he continued. (A2 Television)

Andi Bushati: What if Lali gets out of prison?

A pact has been drawn up between the prime minister and the imprisoned mayor to return the latter to office. But what would be the consequence for a justice reform, that the high-ranking officials have kicked down the doors of his cells?

A decisive moment for Albania

It is the first time that Albanians feel they can shape the national debate without waiting for political parties to take the lead. Experience teaches us that democracy depends not only on elections, but also on active citizenship among them.
