A 44-year-old Albanian man has been arrested by Greek police, suspected of committing a series of thefts in the areas of Evia and Fthiotida. According to Greek media, on Thursday he stole a vehicle from the yard of a house in Edipsos and fled towards Fthiotida. The following day, he forced his way into the apartment of a teacher in Nea Anhialos, from where he took jewelry, a watch, a laptop, a tablet and other valuables.
The perpetrator was discovered thanks to the tracking function of the stolen tablet. The teacher managed to locate the device in the Glyfa area and immediately notified the police. During the search, officers found the tablet and other stolen items inside the vehicle, which also turned out to be stolen.
When the police arrived in Glyfa, the 44-year-old was on the beach. As soon as he saw the officers, he tried to run away from the vacationers, but was arrested a few minutes later. The verifications showed that the Albanian had been illegally in Greece since 2021, without a valid residence permit.
