Kosovo Police have arrested a Kosovar citizen with the initials FS, on suspicion of committing the criminal offense of espionage.
The arrest was carried out at the Merdara border crossing, in Podujeva, by order of the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo.
So far, authorities have not released details about the activities of which the arrested person is suspected, while it has not been confirmed whether the case is related to any foreign intelligence service.
The Special Prosecution Office has announced that, in cooperation with the Kosovo Police, it will continue investigative actions with the aim of fully clarifying the circumstances of the case. According to Kosovo legislation, espionage is considered a serious criminal offense and, if found guilty, is punishable by at least five years in prison.
The latest arrest comes at a time when Kosovo authorities have conducted several investigations and other arrests on suspicion of espionage activities in favor of Serbian intelligence services.
