The candidacies for the position of Prosecutor General have been made official, and six names from the ranks of the prosecution system will be in the race.
Reliable sources indicate that the candidates are: the Chief Prosecutor of Elbasan, Kreshnik Ajazi; the prosecutor at Eurojust, in her second mandate, Fatjona Memçaj; the former Acting Prosecutor General, Arta Marku; prosecutor Ylli Pjeternika; the prosecutor of Tirana, Rovena Bozo; as well as the prosecutor of SPAK, Adnan Xholi. The procedure for the selection of the new Prosecutor General was opened by the High Prosecutorial Council (KLP), as the seven-year mandate of the acting Prosecutor General, Olsian Çela, ends in December. The KLP officially opened the public call for applications in early July, in accordance with the legal procedures for the election of the head of the prosecution body.
After verifying the candidacies and completing the evaluation procedures, the KLP will propose the list of candidates to the Assembly, while the Prosecutor General will be elected by a qualified majority of votes, according to constitutional provisions.
