Clothing prices in Albania have entered a new phase of price increases, as according to Eurostat data last year they exceeded the EU average. Clothing prices in our country were 5.5 percent higher than the EU average last year. The clothing price index according to purchasing power in our country marked 105.2 percent compared to the EU average=100. With this increase, Albania ranks among the 11 European countries with the highest clothing prices according to purchasing power.
More expensive than Albania are only highly developed countries such as Switzerland, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Norway, etc. A blouse, a coat that were once considered relatively cheap in comparison to Europe, are now exceeding the prices of more developed markets. Albania has moved from a significantly lower price level towards a rapid convergence. About four years ago, the clothing index was approximately at 96.5% of the EU average.
Then, they fell even lower to around 90.7 in 2023. In the following years, the trend quickly reversed. The index returned to 105.2 in 2025.
Data shows that within a year Albania has gone from a relatively cheap market for clothing to a market where prices have not only equaled the EU average, but have exceeded it.
According to the Eurostat ranking, Albania is among the most expensive in the Balkans and Europe for clothing. Traditionally, Montenegro has had the highest prices in the region, while North Macedonia has the lowest.
10 years ago, Albania was in a favorable position with about 50% of the EU average, but in recent years it has shifted, becoming the most expensive in the Region in 2025, but also one of the most expensive in Europe.
Albania is not a producer of clothing for the domestic market, as most goods come from abroad. The global crises of recent years have affected supply chains, which have not yet fully returned to normal.
Also, the increase in disposable income in a certain segment of the population and changing consumer behavior have driven a higher demand for brands and products with higher quality and price.
Meanwhile, internal costs have also increased, such as store rents and salaries, causing a portion of these expenses to be included in final prices.
