The anti-government protest enters its 79th day today. Citizens are expected to gather again in the square, continuing the daily mobilization that has been taking place in Tirana for more than two months. The main demand remains the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama and the removal of the government. The protesters also demand a change in the political class, the creation of a caretaker government and the holding of new elections. The list of demands also includes the repeal of several laws they oppose, including the law on strategic investments. Citizens accuse the government of corruption, mismanagement and lack of transparency, while insisting that the protest will continue until their demands are met.
The last three days, on August 14, 15 and 16, the protest has seen a high turnout. The square was also joined by many Albanians from the diaspora, who are in the country for summer vacation and chose to be part of the rallies.
